GEAR UP TutorsThis year Pioneer Middle School has had the privilege of working with seven fantastic GEAR UP tutors, all of which bring unique qualities to the program, but there are two tutors in particular we’d like to give special recognition for their great work and constant dedication: Jane Froese and Rachel Hicks.
Jane and Rachel are both working toward their Bachelor of Arts degrees in Elementary Education at WSU Tri-Cities. Jane began working as a tutor at Pioneer two years ago after a friend recommended her for the job. She always knew she wanted to pursue a career in education, and GEAR UP offered the perfect opportunity for her to test her skills and gain experience. Jane is a passionate and patient teacher. She enjoys working with children, and especially loves coming up with creative ways to help them learn.
Rachel moved to Washington from Virginia, and began her college education at Walla Walla Community College. She qualified for the Washington State Work-Study program and, wanting to work in an educational environment, sent in her resume to Pioneer Middle School’s GEAR UP program, and the rest is history. Rachel loves kids and shows a real aptitude for teaching. One of her greatest desires is to help children learn how to become self-sufficient and successful students.
Both Jane and Rachel are a joy to work with. Their passion for education and desire to help kids learn combined with their confidence and competence makes them well deserving recipients of our gratitude and appreciation.
