At least a hundred parents, friends, and families were able to attend the event, but most importantly, every single student, all seventy eight, showcased a cartoon they personally drew and animated using an innovative computer software program called Adobe Flash.
Adobe Flash is a multimedia program used to create animations, advertisements, internet buttons, and other webpage mechanisms. It is estimated that ninety percent of animated features currently on the internet were created using Flash.
Thanks to GEAR UP's interest in funding and facilitating the animation program at Pioneer, students have had the opportunity to explore computer software programs like Flash. Today’s rapid progression of technology continues to create many career opportunities for up and coming students looking to enter a professional field. Familiarity with computer software can be a launching pad to many great careers.
Students had just two months to put together their own original animation, and they quickly learned the challenges and frustrations that accompany a program as multifaceted as Flash. However, even though the program is difficult and time consuming, every student rose to the challenge and created an animation project to be proud of.
This last semester was Pioneer’s first real opportunity to provide a computer software program as complex and engaging as Adobe Flash, and the best part is, the kids loved it.
